PEP at Phillip and Sala Burton High School became a year-long course in 2005. PEP is an Asian American Studies course that focuses on Filipina/o/x history, culture, and community. It is a brave space for students to be vulnerable, think critically, express themselves artistically, and address real-world issues that affect both the self and the larger community. In collaboration with SFSU’s Step to College program, PEP students earn 3 units of college credit per semester. This class fulfills the CSU/UC G-elective requirement. The PEP class at Burton is currently available for juniors and seniors.
